Abstract

A pair of coronal images through the parietal and temporal lobes of a patient with multiple sclerosis, to illustrate a new MRI method for rapid imaging of myelin and demyelinating lesions (left) and comparison with a post‐mortem section through the same level of the same brain, immunostained with an antibody against proteolipid protein to show myelin histologically (right). Note that the lighter‐stained demyelinated plaques in the histological section match closely with those seen as black spots in the MRI image (see Ouellette et al., pp. 710–724).
