Abstract

The prison system in Brazil is overcrowded, with rights violations and high rates of recurrence. The problem lies in the ineffectiveness of the public policies directed at the penal institutions in the country, which is not worthy of conditions for people in situations of liberty deprivation. However, since 1970, alternative methodologies, such as the Nations by the Protection and Assistance to Convicted Association (APAC), have been showing positive results regarding the re-socialization of prisoners. In this work we intend to analyze the methodologies applied by APAC through a review of the literature on prison experience.
