Abstract

Tropical dry forest in Colombia has been reduced from an original cover of 80.000km² to 1200km² in our days. The forests areas that belong to this ecosystem are contained in rural landscapes with an intensive agricultural activity because its soils fertility. Taking decisions about fragmented landscapes management for maintenance of biodiversity requires understanding the pattern of the landscape mosaic. Through the implementation of a Geographical Information System it was possible to calculate measures and indices that describe the landscape pattern in two temporal stages and propose concrete management actions.
