Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyse and compare the statistics of the competition in professional wheelchair tennis matches. We selected a total of 27 Grand Slam men’s singles matches (14 Roland Garros and 13 US Open), representing 100% of the matches in these competitions. An analysis of the following variables was done: total length of the match, effectiveness of the first service, aces, double faults, won points with the first and second serve, receiving points won, break point conversions, ready break points, total points won, and their differences according to the playing surface: clay and green set. The results show an average length of 75 min per match. There is a trend toward lower values on fast surfaces in all analysed variables, but the ones that are statistically significant are those related to the percentage of first serve points won and receiving points won. Knowledge of the game statistics helps to better understand the requirements of the competition.
