Abstract

There are produced approximately one million tons of glass annually in Brazil. The glass components resulting from domestic and commercial wastes are usually bottles, light bulbs, broken glassware, food jars, broken waste from factories and other types of objects. After analysis of these data was sought an alternative to sort the problem of accumulation and glass improper disposal. A sustainable alternative to reduce the volume of glass discarded without reuse, would be the use of them in construction, embedded in cement-based mixtures such as in the production of concrete with crushed glass cullet to replace the sand as the use of glass residuals in the interlocked paver composition of concrete, in replacing of 25% of sand used as fine aggregate in the dash base of concrete, a potential way of contributing to the reuse of this waste, and with the possibility of improving the performance and cost reduction. Since it was analyzed the compressive strength and water absorption (analyzes specified by NBR 9781: 2013 for pavement quality control) comparing the results with the pavement using glass as compared to standard (using the amount of normal sand).
