Abstract

Temporomandibular joint Ankylosis is a condition in which the condylar movement is limited due to the abnormal consolidation of the temporomandibular joint . The Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) plays an important role in craniofacial integrity and hence its ankylosis has devastating effects on further growth and development of the jaws and teeth in a growing child. The Temporomandibular joint (TMJ ) ankylosis , when it occurs in a child leads to impairment of speech, difficulty in mastication , poor oral hygiene and pose a negative influence on the psychological development of the patient. If the worst sequel of this condition is to be avoided then its early detection and treatment is warranted. We present a case report on bilateral Temporomandibular joint (TMJ ) ankylosis with emphasis on its wide range of manifestations.
