Abstract

Magnetic susceptibility of single-crystal La 2−xSr xCuO 4 with various x was measured with a SQUID magnetometer. The susceptibility with magnetic field ( H) perpendicular to the CuO 2 plane is 1.5≈ 3 times as large as that with H parallel to the CuO 2 plane, whereas they have similar temperature dependence. The field-dependent susceptibility in the vicinity of T c was also studied. From these data, T c ( H), i.e., the field dependence of T c for H normal to the CuO 2 plane, was determined by a new method. The coherence length at 0 K in the CuO 2 plane estimated from T c ( H) is about 30 Å for the samples of x = 0.12, 0.14 and 0.19
