Abstract

The anisotropic magnetomistance AMR of fcc FeCoNi alloys was measured using single crystals to investigate its mechanism and to make clear the relation between AMR and magnetostriction. AMR tensor components k1 and k2 were evaluated. The maximum of k1 (∼(Δρ/ρ)I//[001]) and the minimum of k2(∼(Δρ/ρ)I//[111]) at 10K are about 68% and -32%, respectively, both of which are observed around Ni80Co20. The value of k1 exhibits a maximum at the mean electron number per atom e/a ∼27.8 and shows a small hump at e/a ∼26.8. At these e/a values, the magnetostriction constant λ100 becomes zero. The relation between AMR and magnetostriction is discussed.
