Abstract

Distribution measurements were made of tracer indium ions between Dowex- 1 quaternary ammonium anion exchange resin chloride, and aqueous solutions of sodium chloride. Correcting the distribution data for electrolyte invasion permitted calculation of complex formation parameters for the indium-- chloride system. The same set of parameters also describes the liquid distribution data obtained with triisooctylammonium chloride in zylene and sodium chloride and dtlute hydrochloric acid solutions. The species predominant in the resin phase is InCl/sub 4/, those in the liquid amine phases are RInCl/sub 4/ and R/sub 3/ InCl/sub 6/, depending on concentration. The difference is attributed to differences in the effective dielectric constants of the media. (auth)
