Abstract

AbstractTwo anion complexes of a tripodal tris(ferrocenylurea) receptor (L), (LH)·CF3SO3 (1) and (LH)·HSO4 (2), were obtained from L and triflic acid or sulfuric acid, respectively. Crystal structural analyses show that the receptor in the two 1:1 (host/guest) complexes is protonated (on the bridgehead tertiary amine), and the CF3SO3– or HSO4– anion is located outside the tripodal cavity and anchored by the urea and CH groups of the receptor by hydrogen bonds. 1H NMR spectroscopic studies confirmed the binding mode in solution.
