Abstract

Animal   health is an important part of animal welfare and has a direct bearing on the profits accrued from the farm. Monitoring animal health helps in minimizing the incidence of disease and mortality, which causes huge loss to the already marginalized dairy farmers. Therefore, the health care and management practices followed by the farmers play a vital role in enhancing the income from the dairy enterprise. The present study was undertaken purposively in Ranchi district of Jharkhand to study the animal health care and management practices followed by the tribal dairy farmers. Three blocks and, two villages from each block were selected at random. From each village 30 tribal respondents were selected randomly, constituting a total number of 180 respondents. The tribal respondents having atleast one milch animal were selected. The study revealed that 70% of the respondents were not following the recommended animal health care and management practices.
