Abstract

A series of anilinotropone-based [NH, O] nickel complexes were prepared and characterized. The activation of these Ni(II) complexes with aluminum co-catalysts generated a highly efficient tandem catalyst system that can oligomerize ethylene or 1-hexene to high olefins and subsequently undergo Friedel-Crafts alkylation of the toluene solvent. The complexes bearing heteroatom containing sidearms demonstrated much better thermal stability. In addition to the catalytic activity and thermal stability, the products distribution was also affected by the sidearm. The lubricating performance the oligomer product was also studied.
