Abstract

This is the second of three papers dealing with the anharmonic resonance line of U in the UO 2 crystal lattice structure. The total phonon shifts and widths are obtained anharmonically by retaining the cubic and quartic terms in the expansion of the crystal's potential energy in powers of the displacements of the atoms from their equilibrium positions. Both the cubic phonon shifts and widths are expressed in tems of the Legendre functions of the first and second kind, respectively.
