Abstract

Effective equations of motion for anharmonic defects in harmonic media are Volterra integro-differential equations (VIDE). In the special case of dispersionless one-dimensional harmonics substrates they reduce to differential equations. Efficiency of harmonic generation, phonon reflection coefficients, effective local density of states, regions of chaotic motion and conditions for resonant desorption of the surface atoms are numerically evaluated for an anharmonic surface potential on a dispersionless substrate.
