Abstract

Angle resolved inverse photoemission from Ag(111) and Pd(111) surfaces has been recorded in the isochromat mode at 9.8 and 10.8 eV photon energies. Unusually large spectral peaks are found in the energy range 10-20 eV above EF. It is shown that a good qualitative description of the results is provided by a simple model based on k-conserving transitions between free-electron like states. In particular we find no structures due to elastic diffuse scattering.
