Abstract

A case of angiosarcoma of the carotid body is presented. Local lymph node metastases and invasion of the carotid bifurcation were found at the time of radical surgical excision. The patient is alive and free of disease three years after surgery, vindicating an aggressive surgical attack on this lesion. The histopathologic aspects of the lesion are demonstrated and contrasted with those of the usual carotid body humor. We believe this to be the first reported case.
