Abstract

Background and Aims : Angiopoietin-like 3 (ANGPTL3) is an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and endothelial lipase (EL). The impact of ANGPTL3 lowering has been shown to depend on the type of dyslipidemia: reduced LDL cholesterol in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and reductions in plasma triglycerides in patients with chylomicronemia. This differential effect may be related to a difference in the association of ANGPTL3 with lipoproteins. We therefore hypothesized that ANGPTL3 resides on lipoproteins and that this affects its ability to suppress lipase activity.
