Abstract

Angiogenesis is a complex process and crucial to numerous biological functions from physiologic regeneration of the endometrium during menstrual cycles to abnormal processes such as tumor growth. Our previous study (Fertil Steril,80(5):1137-43, 2003) showed that in vitro culture of human endometrial tissue in a three-dimensional (3-D) fibrin matrix can proliferate and sprout new vessels. The present study was undertaken to determine if it is possible to reproducibly establish an angiogenesis model by culture of isolated human endometrial stromal cells in the 3-D fibrin matrix.
