Abstract

<i>Anesthesia and ENT Surgery</i>describes contemporary anesthesia practice for otorhinolaryngologic procedures. Burnell R. Brown, Jr, MD, PhD, served as editor, with Stanley W. Coulthard, MD, as associate editor, for 16 contributing authors representing both anesthesiology and otolaryngology. The textbook is divided into four major sections and has a total of 173 pages. The first section discusses pharmacology as it relates to otolaryngologic procedures. This includes catecholamine interactions and the use of cocaine anesthesia. Section 2 describes airway problems both from the anesthesiologist's and the otolaryngologist's points of view. A special section on pediatric airway management is included. Section 3 is entitled "ENT Surgical Procedures and Anesthesia." Chapter topics include anesthetic considerations in facial plastic surgery, anesthesia for otolaryngologic laser surgery, and anesthesia for tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. The latter chapter includes contributions from four major medical centers describing preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of the patient undergoing tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy.
