Abstract

Anesthesia and critical care simulators are becoming widely available for training, continuing education, and research. Screen-based simulators, such as the Anesthesia Simulator Consultant™, operate entirely on standard Windows™ or Macintosh™ computers and are very inexpensive. Such simulators cover topics in cardiovascular and respiratory physiology, inhalation and intravenous agent pharmacokinetics, and dozens of emergency situations. Mannequin-based simulators are now commercially available and their use will increase as their value for training is validated.
