Abstract
The Lee County Justice Center is a five- and six-story masonry and concrete multi-sided building located in downtown Fort Myers, Florida. It is approximately 620 feet long by 250 feet deep at its extremities and covers a city block. The building contains courtrooms, offices and the Lee County jail (Figure 1). Pods A, B, C and the jail were constructed in 1983 and 1984 by one contractor. Pod D was constructed by a different contractor in 1984 and 1985. Construction costs were about $33 million. The architect and construction manager were the same throughout the entire construction. The building designers decided to insulate the building on the outside, because the jail required hard concrete block walls on the inside. The jail was only about one fourth of the entire building, but they let it dictate the wall design for the entire building.
