Abstract

Intro & Objectives: Opportunities for meaning-making activities during a child’s end-of-life process may be associated with improved parental bereavement outcomes1,2. Heartbeat Music Therapy (HMT), a novel intervention that integrates an audio recording of a patient’s heartbeat and a parent-led original song, may serve as one of these activities. This pilot study examined: 1) the feasibility and acceptability of providing HMT to hospitalized children with serious illness and their families, and 2) parental perceptions of HMT.
