Abstract

New light is thrown on the question ofthe interpretation of the cryptographic or abbreviated use of the letters ΧΜΓ by two receipts of payment documents of the early Arab period. In these the letters θΜΓ, preceded by a chrismon appear immediately above the di emu of the notary's signature at the bottom of the documents.
