Abstract

This chapter begins by mentioning two approaches to Ancient Interpretations of in Light of the Sea Scrolls. Both approaches assume that we really know what Jewish in Light of the Sea Scrolls are. This shared assumption seems to be over-optimistic and confronts us with the basic questions: (1) what do we in fact know about the Jewish Scriptures when seen from the perspective provided by the collection of writings called the Dead Sea (2) what can be considered, from the same perspective, to be not Scripture but Interpretation of Scripture; (3) what do we in fact know about the Jewish Scriptures when seen from the perspective provided by the collection of writings called the Dead Sea and (4) what can be considered, from the same perspective, to be not Scripture but Interpretation of Scripture.
