Abstract

This response is an explanation of the approach adopted in Ken Booth’s book Theory of World Security against criticisms in the article ‘Securing the Human in Critical Security Studies: the Insecurity of a Secure Ethics’ published in this journal by Dan Bulley and Mike Bourne. In Particular, the responses addresses familiar challenges to the advancing of the concept of emancipation in discussions of ‘security’ in world politics, while more generally it defends a work ‘theory’ against the expectations by readers of detailed and concrete policy prescriptions
