Abstract

In this issue of Cell Stem Cell, Weng etal. (2019) characterize a progenitor population that precedes oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs). The authors identified Zfp36l1 as a key regulator of the cell fate switch between oligodendrocytes and astrocytes in neural progenitors, and thereby an important regulator of cellular processes such as myelination and gliomagenesis.
