Abstract

After tying the anterior descending coronary artery in dogs, solutions of 133Xenon were injected into the vessels of the infarct through a fine catheter over 10 days. The clearance of isotope, determined by an external counter, was a measure of anastomotic blood flow. Initially, mean flow was reduced to 25% of normal. After the third day, clearance rates increased, together with enlargement of interarteriolar anastomoses within the heart.
