Abstract

To the Editor: —InThe Journal, January 3, p. 36, is a case report by Dr. Bernard E. Sayre of Chicago entitled Anaphylactic Shock Following Use of an Organic Coagulant. While I do not dispute the facts mentioned or the antigenic character of the material in question, it would seem to me that the evidence of the existence of anaphylaxis in this instance would be far stronger with the report of the presence of coincident erythema multiforme or urticaria, eosinophilia, and corroboration of the assumed hypersensitiveness by the employment of the usual confirmatory cutaneous tests. In their absence in this case report, it would seem to me possible to explain the occurrence on other grounds than anaphylaxis.
