Abstract

Objective To investigate the related factors of depression in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) combined with old pulmonary tuberculosis. Methods 120elderly patients with COPD combined with old pulmonary tuberculosis and 110 patients with COPD were questioned with general information, lung function and arterial blood gas analysis results, which were respectively compared.Quality of life (COPD Assessment Test,CAT),dyspnea scale and depression status were respectively assessed using CAT,Medieal Research Council dyspnea scale (MRC) and the Geriaric Depression Scale (GDS),which were respectively compared. The correlation between the GDS score and smoking index, lung function, arterial blood gas analysis results,CAT score and MRC score were analized. Results The incidence rate of depression in the elderly patients with COPD combined with old pulmonary tuberculosis was higher than that of the COPD group.Meanwhile,COPD with old tuberculosis had more CAT score ( P <0.05),more MRC score and the GDS score ( P <0.05).The GDS score of COPD with old tuberculosis had positive correlation with Smoking index,PaCO2,CAT score,MRC score, and negative correlation with FEVt/FVC,FEV1 % pred,PaO2.Conclusions COPD with old tuberculosis had higher incidence rate of depression, and poorer quality of life. And the GDS score of COPD with old tuberculosis had positive correlation with smoking index,PaCO2,CAT score,MRC score, and negative correlation with FEV1/FVC,FEV1 % pred,PaO2. Key words: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; Old pulmonary tuberculosis; Depression; Elderly
