Abstract

An anamorphic fiber microlens is evaluated for coupling between laser diodes and single-mode fibers. A theoretical model, based on scalar diffraction and Gaussian mode shapes for the laser and fiber fields, is developed to predict the coupling performance of this microlens. Experimentally, the average coupling efficiency of this lens is measured to be 78%. The lateral sensitivity is also measured and compared with the values predicted by the model.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
