Abstract

This paper focuses on the Assured Service of Differentiated Services Model. This service is not very well accommodated by the current Internet environment, because the Internet’s TCP employs an Additive Increase and Multiplicative Decrease (AIMD) mechanism to control its congestion. The negative interaction between Assured Service and TCP gives rise to two kinds of unfairness problems that should be addressed prior to the establishment of Assured Service in the current Internet environment, i.e., one that occurs among Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and the other within a SLA. In this paper, these problems are mathematically analyzed using two generalized analysis models proposed in this paper for quantitative understanding.
