Abstract

Transportation network allowed reaching for goods and services. Rapid population growth has increased the demand of services and goods. Azadpur Mandi is the main supply chain of producing fresh vegetables and fruits in Delhi. In Azadpur Mandi, more than 5000 vehicles load and unload vegetables and goods. The composition of various type of vehicles, slow-moving vehicles to heavy motor vehicle, is found in Azadpur Mandi and creates traffic congestion. The air quality index in Azadpur Mandi is very severe, especially in the winter season. Heavy traffic congestion leads to more emission of toxic air pollutant, which in turn increases air pollution. The yearly growth and distribution of category-wise vehicles in the study area have increased. Where a light motor vehicle has also increased, and there has been a rapid increase in the numbers of the two-wheelers, the low price of small cars and the straightforward financing mechanisms have promoted people to purchase four-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicles instead of two-wheelers. Azadpur Mandi’s infrastructure is not sufficient to cater to the massive volume of the various type of vehicles, such as heavy motor vehicles, light motor vehicles, and slow motor vehicles. The road width is not sufficient for the mobility of the vehicles and released various vehicular air pollutants.
