Abstract
In recent years, the Huangpu River in Shanghai has paid great attention to urban renewal and ecosystem reconstruction. However, with the development of the city, it also faces many challenges such as inappropriate urban planning and environmental pollution. In this paper, after organizing the existing cases of the old wharves and public green spaces along the Huangpu River, an evaluation system is constructed by selecting indicators from the aspects of sustainable development and ecological environment, and urban planning. They are analyzed and compared from the process of planning and renovation of public spaces in various areas along the riverfront on both sides of the Huangpu River, and the current situation and existing problems are summarized. Finally, the study compares Shanghai with similar waterfront cities, highlights and criticizes Shanghai's urban development process, and gives reasonable suggestions on its ecological environment and sustainable development level, so as to provide references for the renewal of urban public space in the future.
