Abstract

Raising meat goats is an activity that can bring high profits to the people in Ninh Thuan province. However, currently, the people in Ninh Thuan still face many obstacles in developing intensive meat goat farming. This research aims to determine the production efficiency and determinants of the decision to expand the scale of meat goat farming in Ninh Phuoc district, Ninh Thuan province. Data was collected by surveying 177 households raising meat goats fattening in the form of intensive farming in the three communes of Phuoc Thai, Phuoc Son, and Phuoc Hau of Ninh Phuoc district. The results of the analysis using descriptive statistics and Logit regression model show that: (1) Intensive confined meat goat farming brings relatively high economic efficiency; (2) There are 10 factors influencing the decision to expand investment in intensive confined meat goat farming by households in the following decreasing order: income expectation, market convenience, finance, participation in training, educational level, farming area, farming experience, selling price, current profit, and disease rate. Based on the analysis results, the study proposes key policy implications for expanding the scale of confined meat goat farming in Ninh Phuoc district, Ninh Thuan province, including policies on consumption, capital, disease prevention, improving labor capacity, and cost control measures.
