Abstract
Chaotic Simulated Annealing (CSA) is a derivative meta-heuristic obtained by embedding chaos in Simulated Annealing (SA) meta-heuristic. Literature talks about various chaos maps and its analysis for efficient and convergent search for finding an optimal solution. In this article, CSA has been applied to Stochastic Dynamic Facility Layout Problem (SDFLP), which is a NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem. The goal is to evaluate the impact of seven known chaotic maps in solving the SDFLP. For optimizing SDFLP the best measure of its efficiency is by minimizing the total material handling cost (TMHC) of the layout. TMHC is an addition of material handling and rearrangement cost. The paper evaluates the solution on multiple aspects—material handling cost, rearrangement, cost and product demand distribution to prove the efficacy of chaos embedded algorithm (CSA) in solving SDFLP. The solutions obtained in some cases are better than the results reported in previous literature. Also, it was seen from the CSA simulation that ‘sine’ and ‘logistic’ chaotic maps has the best abilities in solving SDFLP.
