Abstract

A good analyze of aluminum cold rolling is almost impossible without a good knowledge of rolling parameters. Besides, to optimize and stabilize the process, the interactions among various factors during rolling should be known. Thus, controlling the parameters affecting this process is of significant importance in order to have a product with high quality and efficiency. In the present work, using a new software (MATROLL), attempts have been made to analyze the cold rolling process of aluminum. Eight cold rolling passes were carried out on a real industrial mill. It was found that when the coefficient of friction (COF) drops to below about 0.035, the rolling is going to be unstable. This value of is named here Optimum COF when below it the process is metastable. including the coefficient of friction (COF) and pressure distribution curves so-called friction hills. The results (outputs) are in good agreements with the findings of other researchers so that the reliable analyses can be established.
