Abstract

Abstract For nuclear reactions to two-body final states, simple formulae of analyzing powers for polarized beams are derived in a model-independent way, when spin-dependent interactions are weak. The formulae are applicable to reactions at extremely low incident energies to a large extent, as far as the parity is conserved. For example, measured cross sections and analyzing powers in the 2H( d , p)3H reaction at Ed = 30–90 keV, the 3He( d , γ)5Li reaction at Ed = 800 keV and the 7Li( p , γ)8Be reaction at Ep = 0–80 keV are analyzed by the formulae with successful agreements between the data and the formulae. The analyses provide valuable information on the mechanisms of these reactions.
