Abstract

Bus rapid transit (BRT) bus stops sometimes are set up as integrated bus stops, which provide services for both regular public transit and bus rapid transit. To guarantee the speediness of BRT, this paper studies integrated bus stops, and analyzes queuing delays of BRT vehicles at exclusive and integrated bus stops with Queuing Theory first. Considering the effect of buses’ arrival and passengers’ getting on and off buses on buses’ delay, this paper calculates stopping delay of BRT vehicles at bus stops, and builds a total delay model of BRT vehicles. Taking total delay of BRT vehicles at exclusive bus stops as standard, and comparing total delays of BRT vehicles at exclusive and integrated bus stops, this paper proposes a analyzing method of setting threshold for integrated bus stops. Then, this paper uses an exclusive bus stop as an example to verify feasibility of the method. The method guarantees priority of BRT, and provides theoretical support for setting up integrated bus stops.
