Abstract

The lateral lipid distribution describes the density of different lipid species in the membrane and reveals structural information about the membrane composition. The diffusion of lipids throughout the membrane is an essential part of many biological processes, specifically, they can redistribute along the membrane due to curvature. This redistribution process leads to a softening of the membrane. By analyzing fluctuations in the lateral density, we can reveal the important physics associated with the redistribution process.
