Abstract
This paper describes the concepts of fault containment and fault containment regions in aerospace systems, with specific applications to aircraft via examples. A procedure is explained where the applicability of such concepts can be enhanced with the help of significant adaptations to a well-known reliability engineering tool such as functional failure modes effects and criticality analyses. The paper introduces such concepts as fault containment regions, fault source regions, fault connectivity map, and fault connectivity regions.
