Abstract

A comparative study of the performance of a multirecess flexible journal bearing using different types of compensations, namely capillary, constant flow valve, orifice and membrane restrictors, was carried out theoretically for hydrostatic as well as hybrid modes of operations. The governing equations are solved using the Finite Element Method. The results of bearing characteristics have been presented for the various values of deformation coefficient ( C d). It is observed from the computed results that the proper selection of the type of restrictor, in conjunction with the value of deformation coefficient ( C d), may provide improved bearing performance.
