Abstract

With the exponential increase in digital data worldwide, the need to provide efficient, reliable and scalable storage solution has become a significant concern. Also, there has been exceptional growth in network-based computing recently and client-/server-based applications have brought revolutions in this area. An efficient solution is required for enhancing the storage capacity of existing systems without migration of server software and with minimum or zero downtime. The industries like software services, health care, education, research, etc., require a reliable storage infrastructure that relies on distributed environment to store and process large amounts of data. With the advent of various distributed file systems (DFSs), the focus is on a solution over off-the-shelf commodity servers which provide ease of scalability and reliability. In this paper, we will discuss analytical modelling of two major DFSs—GlusterFS and CephFS—which are being used in the industry.
