Abstract

The goal of this study is to produce an analytical description of the soot formation process with use of a systematic kinetic model. Emphasizes that in a previous study, in considering decomposition of acetylene, the kinetics of soot formation were treated more rigorously, but the analysis was performed by numerical solution of a system of 1500 kinetic equations. Notes that the results and conclusions obtained from an analytical solution of the problem agree to a great degree with the numerical calculations of the previous study, and correspond qualitatively to experimental data. Points out that with respect to certain parameters (e.g., characteristic soot particle size) there is a marked divergence between theory and experiment. Recommends the more accurate definition of the elementary process rate constants.
