Rood, H. J. ; Dickel, J. R. Abstract Analytical derivations of standard deviations of virial parameters of groups of galaxies and contributions to correlation coefficients caused by projection and quasi-equilibrium effects are presented. The results of a previous paper for estimates of uncertainties in galactic radial velocities, galactic masses, group luminosities, and group distances are confirmed. The equations derived are also used to examine the hypothesis that large mean values of observationally derived mass-to-light ratios of groups and clusters are caused by the presence of a cosmological force with a negative cosmological constant. This hypothesis is found to be untenable. Hypotheses for explaining the observed virial properties of systems of galaxies are discussed.
