Abstract

Haloperidol is a highly potent, first-generation antipsychotic drug used for the treatment of several disorders. It exerts its antipsychotic effect through the strong antagonism in the dopamine D2 receptor. Effective analytical procedures are required for clinical and pharmaceutical studies. In this review, a variety of analytical techniques and associated methodologies for the determination of haloperidol are detailed including spectrophotometry, spectrofluorimetric, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, thin layer chromatography, electrophoresis, liquid chromatography, and gas chromatography. HPLC is the most widely used technique.
