Abstract
The degree of linear polarization of the line OI 6300 Å of the oxygen atom in the Earth's ionosphere is analytically calculated. The calculations are performed under the assumption of collision excitation of the oxygen atom by electrons. The parameters of the anisotropic electron distribution corresponding to the measured polarization of 2%. The dependences of the degree of linear polarization on the parameters of the electron distribution function of the Earth's ionosphere are analyzed. Calculations indicate good ground-based observations of nonequilibrium conditions in the Earth's ionosphere.
