Abstract

Impulse Radio Ultra Wide Band (IR-UWB) is the most promising communication technology for low power, short distance, high data rate applications. IR-UWB spectrum being coincided with other narrow band communication systems transmitting high powers is prone to narrow band interference (NBI). In this paper, we have used Gabor Transform to approximate template at receiver with subcarriers. In the present case, we have considered IEEE 802.11a wireless local area network (WLAN) interference at 5.2GHz band. One or more subcarrier(s) centered around 5GHz is/are removed from the template so as to avoid the reception and further processing of the interfering signal. In this paper, we have analytically derived the BER calculation of time hopping pulse position modulation (THPPM) UWB system in presence of narrow band interference (NBI) taking into account inter-path interference (IPI), inter-chip interference (ICI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI). The channel model considered is IEEE 802.15.3a channel model. A method for NBI mitigation is proposed and studied for improvement in the BER performance.
