Abstract

Abstract Algebraic and sheaf-theoretic methods have been used to solve a series of classical problems in the geometry of complex manifolds and in the theory of functions of several complex variables. They have also oriented the research related to several complex variables for a good few decades. Developed in parallel with Grothendieck's theory of schemes, the theory of complex analytic spaces represents nowadays the natural framework and the language in which these algebraic methods are formulated.
