Abstract
Expressions for the Gibbs potential in many-body systems have been derived by Luttinger and Ward using the methods of second quantization and by Klein using the timedependent statistical Green functions. In this investigation the results of Luttinger and Ward are deduced from those of Klein by making use of the analytic properties of the statistical Green function in the complex time plane. (H.D.R.)
