Abstract

In high power conversion applications, there are many possible multilevel inverter topologies. In order to compare eleven different topologies and to select the optimal one, the decision should consider a variety of multiple criteria such as cost, reliability, efficiency, output harmonic quality and components sizing. In this paper, the authors propose the Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP) tool for Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM). AHP involves structuring multiple choice criteria into a hierarchy, assessing the relative importance of these criteria, comparing various multilevel inverter associations for each criterion, and determining an overall ranking of the alternatives topologies.
